Alice in Wonderland Themed Party for Adults & Vegan Party Platter Spreads!

Alice in Wonderland Themed Party for Adults & Vegan Party Platter Spreads! is a post that comes from my AMAZING 37th birthday party a few weeks ago. If you follow my blog, you’ll know that I am a girl who not only loves a good party, but loves to host and throw a great soiree. Entertaining has always been a love of mine and I’ve been doing it since my early 20’s. Actually, since I was a kid! I planned an incredibly dope Clue themed party for my sister, Danella, and a hippie party for myself when I was in elementary and middle school. If I don’t have a specific reason to throw an awesome bash, you can bet I’ll make one up!

This year, I decided to throw an Alice in Wonderland themed party… adult style. Now, mind you, there were children there. However, they were doin’ their own thang, but I did accommodate for them as well. I strive to be the hostess with the mostest (yeah, yeah, I know that’s crazy cheesy, but I really do)! I am an avid decorator for parties. I go BIG. Amazon was my best friend this year, as I could find things there that I could not find anywhere else. Also, Pinterest seriously rocks for decor ideas and inspirations. I have an Alice in Wonderland themed board on my Foodgalleygab Pinterest page if you want to check it out! My one request for my guests was that they came dressed in costume. I did my invite on Facebook and used a picture from Alice in Wonderland (AIW) for the face of the event page. Here is a list of what I did to decorate and some:

  • A photo booth tapestry with AIW themed props
  • A large Welcome to Wonderland tapestry when you enter the house after walking through a decorated lawn (LOADS of flamingos, butterflies, and pinwheels). You then follow the AIW signs to the front door where I had a table and vegan Jello shots (I used agar agar as a substitute for gelatin) that said “drink me,” as an entry must have
  • A teapot piñata FILLED with small bottles of booze, condoms, pregnancy & ovulation tests, lube, and candy. This hung in my garage where I had tons of balloons and streamers (*CHECK OUT THE PINATA VIDEO AT THE END OF THE POST!!!)
  • Blank white mugs (God bless the dollar tree) and permanent markers that everyone had to decorate upon arrival. This was their mug for their libations for the entire soiree and their take-home gift as well (people got creative!)
  • A small table for the kids with AIW stickers and different AIW coloring papers
  • An AIW themed decorated table LOADED with tea party foods and decorations. There was an AIW “Happy Birthday” banner hanging above. The table had clocks, an owl, bird cage, moss and green confetti, and my grandmother’s vintage denim porcelain set. The window behind the table had loads of large stick-on colored butterflies
  • ALL walls and the kitchen were decorated with gigantic playing cards and a large array of different lamented AIW posters
  • Strings of old skeleton keys and playing cards hung from the ceiling (I would’ve hung mugs and books if I had the time as well)
  • Stuffed bunny rabbits, large colored pom-poms, balloons, and an old version of an AIW book were on tables (balloons littered all over the floor)

FOR THE KIDS & DRINKS:

  • A “kids corner” where I had PB & J sandwiches, fruit roll-ups, Annie’s cookies, and popcorn
  • A drink counter with 2 large pitchers of tea cocktails that said “this one makes you smaller” & “this one makes you taller” – Bourbon & Peach Smash Iced Tea & Bubbly Strawberry Tea Vodka Punch/2 flavored waters (I always have these @ every party- lemon & ginger/mint & strawberry)/Apple juice & juice boxes for the kiddos/a cold bin with beer & wine/a small cooler filled with ice for the “tea” drinks

THE FOOD: (100% VEGAN)

  • Spinach wraps with veggie cream cheese (from the most amazing Portland cafe called Sweet Pea) and sausage (Gimme Lean) pinwheels
  • Cucumber sandwiches with veggie cream cheese and fresh dill
  • Hummus and veggies – click HERE for 5 hummus recipes
  • Whole wheat sandwiches with a homemade tofu curry spread (almost like a Toby’s)
  • Field Roast Tomato Cayenne & Creamy Original cheese cut into squares, and Field Roast Wild Mushroom Loaf & Smoke Tomato Loaf – sliced – served with Carr’s Table Water Crackers
  • Ruffled potato chips with sour cream & onion dip (I pureed silken tofu and mixed it with Lipton’s French Onion Dip packages – you could also buy Tofutti’s vegan sour cream)
  • Veggie chips
  • Grapes
  • A topsy turvy homemade cake. I used cinnamon, chocolate, and vanilla boxed cakes and replaced the egg with Follow Your Heart Egg Substitute, and I used vanilla frosting (many frostings are vegan), and dyed them 3 different colors. I decorated with colored sprinkles, skeleton keys, cards, and an AIW sign for the top. This thing was a beast! She weighed LOADS!
